Purpose:Provide oversight of the radiation safety program and training in support of the Federal Bureaus of Investigation’s (FBI) Hazardous Devices School (HDS).
Primary Responsibilities:
Organize and schedule regular briefings and trainings sessions about radiation safety, radiation protection principles, characteristics of ionizing radiation, units of radiation dose and quantities, radiation detection instrumentation, biological hazards of exposure to radiation, NRC regulatory requirements and standards and provide hands-on training in the use of radioactive materials.
Identify and control the anticipated radiation hazards.
Performing an annual review of the contract radiation safety program.
Compile quarterly reports of occupational/personal worker exposure to radiation for the quarter.
Minimum Qualifications:
5-15 years of experience as a RSO
Bachelor level or equivalent training and experience in physical, chemical, biological sciences, or engineering
Certificate of Training from formal course designed for RSOs presented by an academic institution, commercial radiation safety consulting company, or professional organization of radiation protection experts.
